Hasan Mahmud's six wickets bowl West Indies out for 356 in Sylhet Test

Fang Han·November 6, 2026·3 min read

Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud claimed six wickets as West Indies were bowled out for 356 in their first innings on the second day of the first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, according to দ্য ডেইলি স্টার বাংলা.

The visitors resumed on 235 for four and added 121 more runs before losing their remaining six wickets. Hasan finished with figures of 6-90, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up two wickets each.

Why it matters

Hasan's six-wicket haul is the second of his Test career and his fifth five-wicket innings in the format, which দ্য ডেইলি স্টার বাংলা reports is the most by any Bangladesh fast bowler. It is also his first five-wicket return on home soil, following an earlier five-wicket effort against Afghanistan in October.

The collapse also changed the shape of the match. West Indies had looked comfortable for much of the first day and the opening hour of the second, and Bangladesh's ability to bowl them out for a total well short of 400 gives the hosts a platform to take control of the Test.

Two wickets in two balls

West Indies began the day steadily, with overnight batsmen Aamir Jangoo and Justin Greaves building on their first-day work. The match turned when Hasan took the second new ball.

In his first over with it, he removed both set batsmen on consecutive deliveries. Jangoo, who had reached a century, was bowled by a strong delivery and departed for 133. The very next ball, West Indies captain Roston Chase was caught behind.

Hasan nearly completed a hat-trick with the following delivery. The on-field umpire gave Joshua Bishop out lbw, but a review saved the batsman, with replays showing the ball had brushed the inside edge of his bat before hitting the pad.

Greaves kept resisting at the other end, reaching his third Test fifty and his third score of 50 or more this year, according to দ্য দেইলি স্টার বাংলা. Hasan eventually dismissed Bishop to complete his five-wicket haul, and Miraz claimed the first success for the spinners when Greaves was bowled by a flighted delivery for 51.

West Indies went to lunch on 322 for eight, having lost four wickets in the first session while adding 87 runs.

Joseph bowled first ball after the break

Hasan struck again with the first ball of the second session, bowling Shamar Joseph to complete his sixth wicket. The delivery pitched and moved in sharply to hit middle and leg stump.

West Indies' tail still added useful runs. Jomel Warrican and Jayden Seales put on 33 for the last wicket before Miraz ended the innings.

Jangoo's 133 was the top score of the innings, with Kevin Wickham making 61 and Greaves 51. Warrican contributed 27 and Seales 15.

There was also concern for Bangladesh in the field during the first session. Opener Sadman Islam injured his left ankle while trying to stop a boundary and had to be taken off the ground on a stretcher, according to দ্য ডেইলি স্টার বাংলা.

Bangladesh will begin their reply with a batsman already carrying an injury concern, and how the hosts cope at the top of the order is the immediate question as the Test moves into its next phase.
